News and Trip Reports

Marty arrived back from leading his 6th team to Ethiopia-TK2010 on the 16th of Nov. Marty says that this was one of his most successful trips yet, for the following reasons:

  • Thanks to Emirates we took a massive 604kgs of gear to Ethiopia including tools, spades and shovels to be used on site in Jimma -sponsored by the Rotary Club of Western Springs; masses of clothing, toys, stationary and footballs for Hannas Orphange, which Team Members collected; and 4 large bags of knitted woolen blankets for the Hamlin Fistula Hospital in Addis Abeba.
  • A Team of 18 dynamic Kiwis that cleared, levelled and dug trenches for 7 new homes;built 7 new structures-6 lined with split timber ready for mud, 5 with roofs on; lined with mud- 7 interiors and 3 exteriors; moved building materials up and down the site for these homes-including rocks for foundations; poles for the structure and 220 split timbers- all straighented for each home.
  • We were able to leave substanial donations: to Hannas Orphanage (NZ$14,000.00) Habitat for Humanity Ethiopia for Vulnerable Group Families (NZ$28,000.00) Fistula Hospital- Canaan project-Village built by Team Dutchie 09-funds for water supply to the village and storage tanks (NZ$12,300.00)

After TK2010 departed, Marty had the opportunity to visit the Tribal People in the Southern Omo valley with fellow Team members Paul Graham from NZ, and Eyayo and Samrawit from Addis.  This was an extraordinary trip, please view the photos!

We are also delighted to announce that Scott Pepler and Marty will lead TK 2011 to either Kombolcha or Jimma.  This will be a team of 18. There are only 4 spaces available for Team Members who have been to Ethiopia with previous Team Kiwis.  Get in quick before all the spaces are filled!
